The JEF Glossary
Arbitration Board or AB
One of the bodies of the organisation. It is elected by the Congress and has five members. Its function is to settle statutory conflicts between members, JEF sections and statutory bodies of JEF.
Congress
The supreme body of JEF. It meets every two years. It is composed of delegates elected by JEF national sections. Its defines the political direction of JEF and its policies in specific fields. It elects for a mandate of two years the President, the two Vice-Presidents and directly elected members of the Federal Committee.
EMI
European Movement International. The European platform gathering the national European Movements and other pro-European organisations. JEF is one of its members.
Executive Bureau or EB
The body responsible for the management of the organisation. It implements the decisions taken by the Federal Committee. It is composed of the President, the two Vice-Presidents, at least four members elected by the Federal Committee, the Secretary General and the Treasurer. It meets at least four times a year.
Federal Committee or FC
The political body of JEF entrusted with the on-going work of the association between the two Congresses. It elects the Executive Bureau and controls its administration. It elects the Secretary General and the Treasurer. It defines the policies of the association in specific areas. It coordinates the activities between the sections. It meets at least twice a year. It is formed by one representatives of each national section and approximately 20 members elected directly by the Congress.
JEF
Common short-name of the association. It stands for "Jeunes Européens Fédéralistes" in French, "Young European Federalists" in English.

Political Commissions or PCs
Groups organised in the frame of the Federal Committee to deal with political issues. They meet during the Federal Committee meetings and carry activities in between meetings. Each of them has a Chair and a EB responsible for it. At the moment JEF has Political Commissions on European Constitution and Intergovernmental Conference, Enlargement, Europe and the new world order.
Presidium
Person/s that chair the meeting of the Federal Committee and support its preparation.
Proxy
Written permission that a Congress delegate or a Federal Committee member unable to take part in the meeting may give to use his vote.
Quorum
Number of people (Congress delegates, Federal Committee members, Executive Bureau members) requested for the relevant meeting of the body to be valid.
Secretary General or SG
The person in charge of the European Secretariat of the association. S/he is responsible for relations with the sections of JEF Europe and the coordination of their activities. S/he is appointed by the Federal Committee for a term of two years.
UEF
Union of European Federalists. The European organisation of the federalist movements active in various countries. JEF is its youth movement.
Working Groups or WGs
Groups organised in the frame of the Federal Committee to deal with organisational issues. They meet during the Federal Committee meetings and carry activities in between meetings. Each of them has a Chair and a EB responsible for it. At the moment JEF has Working Groups on Communication, Development of Sections, Finances, Referendum countries.
